A Statement from Mayor Ingram on Cheraw's COVID-19 Response

Myself, our Administrative Staff, and our Recreation Director have been monitoring the effects that the coronavirus is having on our Nation, State, and County. Our thoughts have been that we would follow suit of Chesterfield County Schools, since our schools are locations and activities are places where the most people gather at any given time.

Since Governor Henry McMaster announced Sunday at 4:00PM to close all schools, the Town Staff and I met on Monday and decided it was time to brief Town Council on this growing threat. At 4:00PM today I met with members of our Town Council to brief them on our response to ensure the safety and welfare of our Citizens.

The Cheraw Town Council and I have decided to suspend, until further notice, all non-essential services and activities in the Town of Cheraw. This suspends immediately all Recreation Department activities such as sports, dance, karate, gymnastics, arts, etc.  This also impacts reserved events at the Cheraw Community Center and the Theatre on the Green.  These facilities will be closed to the public until further notice.

All parks will remain open for individual use only.  No organized activities in Cheraw's parks are allowed.  Further, Opening Day Ceremony at Arrowhead Park and Cheraw Spring Festival are canceled.

The safety of our Citizens is our highest priority.  It is my hope that this action will help prevent and minimize the spread of COVID-19.

The Town will continue to be fully staffed, providing our Citizens the day to day services as usual.  We have asked staff to practice social distancing in the work place and with the general public.  They are also taking extra steps to sanitize workplaces to protect themselves and others.

We are in contact with all relevant agencies and will update the public as more information becomes available.

Town Hall will remain open but the doors will be locked.  If you need to make a payment we encourage you to use mail, pay online, or use the dropbox.  Staff will be on site to handle the day to day activities such as new service requests, business licenses, and permits.  Please call Town Hall at 843-537-7283 if you have any questions.

I thank you for your understanding as we go through this difficult time.
Sincerely
Mayor Andrew R. Ingram
