New Comprehensive Plan

Cheraw, SC – On August 29, The Town of Cheraw will conduct a public hearing and presentation of its 2016-2026 Comprehensive Plan. The public hearing will be held in the courtroom of Town Hall, 200 Market Street, at 5:30 p.m. Residents, business and community leaders, and other stakeholders are invited and welcome to participate in this planning endeavor.

The purpose of the Town of Cheraw Comprehensive Plan is to provide a framework for the future growth and development of the Town. Cheraw is a special place with a quality of life and an abundance of culture and history that needs to be both preserved and advanced. To provide for proper development, Town officials and citizens should insure that the pattern of land uses will promote the highest degree of health, safety, efficiency, and well-being.

"We are excited about the hard work the Planning Commission, staff, and Cardno have committed to get us to this point," stated Mike Smith, Town Administrator. "Cardno, a Columbia based planning firm, has taken the reigns on this project. This project started last year in October. I personally would like to thank those who participated in our kick-off meeting in January 2016," continued Smith.

According to Gerard Ridzon, lead consultant, the comprehensive plan is an opportunity to energize the public and create synergy. Cheraw is a charming community with a great deal of potential and opportunities. We, with the Planning Commission and information from the kick-off meeting, feel the recommendations provide a platform to catapult Cheraw over the next decade. Downtown is the nucleus for future opportunities.

Overall, the Plan will provide a framework for shaping future development in Cheraw, serve as a guide for local policy and decision-making pertaining to development , and it will identify investment and other priorities intended to maintain and enhance Cheraw's status as that special place to live, work and play.
