Bird Watching

Sandhills National Wildlife Refuge

Bird watchers have a number of wonderful sites to spot feathered friends in our area. The National Wildlife Refuge is particularly well set up for birding. All the Sandhills sites are great places to spot the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker and the southern bald eagle as well as over 200 other species of birds. Carolina Sandhills National Wildlife Refuge has observation towers, viewing platforms and a photography blind, as well a birding check list, special events and brochures found at the refuge. Near McBee on Highway US 1.
