The Cheraw Gym Champs Bring Home Gold at the 
2016 Low Country Classic 

The Cheraw Gym Champs Team Competed in the First 2016 Low Country Classic Gymnastics Competition in Charleston on Saturday February 6. This competition featured over 300 gymnasts from gymnastics clubs all over South Carolina. The 47 member Cheraw Gymnastics team consists of girls who compete in three different competitive divisions. The Bronze and Silver team both took home top honors with a first place team win. The more advanced gold team placed second in the team competition. In addition to the team victories, the Gym Champs also shined in the individual competition as well. The girls taking home the Gold, Silver and Bronze All Around Medals in their division and age groups are listed below. 

The First Place All Around Champions: 

  • Bronze Team: Alyssa Sellers, Dawson Blue and Celeste Rainwater 
  • Silver Team: Lily Melton, Emma Shy and Alexis Beets 
  • Gold Team: Selena Cox 
Second Place All Around Champions: 

  • Bronze Team: Tessa Flinchum, Hailea Linton, Ava Logan, Allison Rivers 
  • Silver Team: Kirby Dyson, Shania Quick, 
  • Gold Team: Claire Stone 
Third Place All Around Champions 

  • Bronze Team: Marissa Miles, Hollis Dusa, Kara Lundy, Lily Cathryn Alexander 
  • Silver Team: Mackenzie Teal, Olivia Pruitt, 
  • Gold Team: Haigan Harrington and Caroline Holter 
The silver and gold team will compete next at the AAU Gamecock Invitational in Columbia the weekend of February 27 and 28. The entire team including the Gym Champs Bronze team will head to the beach for the 2016 Coastal Classic the weekend of March 5 and 6. This will be followed by the State Championship meet in Spartanburg in April. The girls that qualify at the State Championship meet will be eligible to attend the 2016 Southern Regional Championships that happen to be hosted in South Carolina this year in May. 

The girls are busy training for the upcoming competitions. A special thanks to all of the Cheraw Gym Champs coaches that put in a lot of hours getting the girls ready to shine. The team coaches include: Ashlee Gillespie, Elesha Quick, Shannon Laney and Deanna Quick. 

It is almost time to be thinking about summer activities. Be sure to consider a Cheraw Gymnastics Camp this summer for a great way to get involved in the sport when the spot light will be turned to Gymnastics at the upcoming 2016 Summer Olympics. The Gym Champs home is the Cheraw Gymnastics Center. The entire Gymnastics program is supported and run by the Cheraw Parks and Leisure Services.
