9 Year Old Author Featured at Our Hidden Treasure of the Pee Dee Event

On March 4, 2017 at Northeastern Technical College from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 pm.  Local authors and artist throughout the Pee Dee region will be highlighted and celebrated at an event entitled… Our Hidden Treasures of the Pee Dee: Celebrating Authors & Artists. The purpose of this event is to create a platform where authors and artists throughout the Pee Dee region can showcase their talents, abilities, and products. The event is also designed to support and celebrate two local non-profits: "Friends of Chesterfield County Libraries" which supports the local library and NANCY’S KIDS which is founded by Coach Mickey Workman and his wife Nancy. This non-profit supports at risk youth.

The featured author for the event is Jakayla Green; a 9 year old 3rd grade student. She is originally from Bennettsville, SC. Her first book, Daddy's Girl, is a book written about a not so happy time in her life when her parents were separated. Jakayla wants kids to know that no matter what they are going through in life, God will always help you get through the bad times by remembering the good times.

Tickets for the event are $10.00 and all proceeds will be donated to Friends of Chesterfield County Libraries and Nancy Kids. Tickets can be purchased at Praise and Faith Gospel Shop, the Cheraw & Chesterfield Library, and The Cheraw Arts Commission. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the door for $10.00. Local authors and artists that would like to participate in the event should contact the event coordinator for details: doreenreid.newbeginning2013@gmail.com or call 843-910-3927
