Public Hearings on the Cheraw Zoning Ordinance Update

The Cheraw Planning Commission will hold two public hearings, one on September 23rd and one on October 7th to discuss proposed changes to the Cheraw Zoning Ordinance.  Both will occur at 6PM and will be in Town Hall.

On September 23rd the Cheraw Planning Commission will review miscellaneous updates to the Cheraw Zoning Ordinance.  This ordinance regulates land use and building requirements for every property in the Town of Cheraw.  

Topics at the September Meeting include but are not limited to

  • Accessory Dwelling Units
  • Appearance Standards for Automotive Repair and Car Dealerships
  • Requirements for firework stands
  • Worm Farm Operation
  • Changes to parking regulations
  • Outdoor lighting requirements
  • Design standards for Apartment Complexes and Conversions
  • Design Standards for Mixed Use Developments
  • Updates to notification standards regarding future rezoning
  • Creation of a Mobile Home Registry
  • Required Orientation of Homes
  • Adding Permitted Uses to Open Space and R-1 High Density Residential
  • Regulations to fences within Town Limits.
On October 7th the Public Hearing the planning Commission will review changes to the Cheraw Historic District and changes to the ordinance regulating signage in the Town limits.

  • Business Signage in the Historic District
  • New Regulations for electronic signs within the Town
  • Economic hardship requirements for exemption from historic district regulations
  • Remedies for demolition by neglect
  • Regulation of fences within the historic district
  • Changes in demolition permit regulations
  • Allowing the use of vinyl windows in the historic district
  • Regulation of murals
  • Regulation of temporary, banner, mobile, and advertising signs
