Historic Preservation
The Cheraw Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic
Places in 1974. The boundaries include approximately 35 blocks in the historic
residential and commercial areas of town. The preservation and protection of
the Cheraw Historic District has always been important to the community. The
Cheraw Appearance Commission was formed in 1982 to oversee new construction,
demolition and rehabilitation in the district. If you own a home or business
located within the historic district and expect to make changes to the property
please let us assist you with the approval process. Please contact the
Community Development Department at 843-537-8400.
